Farewell Wishes for Olaf Erkens

0 After nearly 45 years as a member of the Faculty of Business and Economics -35 of those as Head of WiWi IT - the Faculty is saying goodbye to its employee, Olaf Erkens. Mr. Erkens first joined the Faculty as a student before later transitioning to the Faculty administration as an employee. Mr. Erkens was not only an IT veteran of the Faculty but was also among the very first employees in this field at TU Dortmund University as a whole. He personally installed the first faculty network by hand in the catacombs of the university vaults and, in the years that followed, reliably equipped the professorships with ever-evolving hardware and software. As the interface between the Faculty and the IT and Media Center of TU Dortmund, he always represented the Faculty's interests with great commitment. Over the years, Olaf Erkens has guided the Faculty through numerous technological and personnel changes. He worked for a total of nine Deans and supported countless lecturers and staff members. With his open manner, he regularly made sure important Faculty IT concerns were heard. With great patience and a necessary pinch of humor, he provided even the most non-technical colleagues with the knowledge and skills needed to handle constantly changing requirements. The security of the IT infrastructure was always his top priority, and he never shied away from regularly alerting all Faculty members to the dangers of careless usage. In the Dean’s Office administration, Olaf Erkens was a valuable member of the Faculty management and always placed himself at the service of the team and the Faculty. His colleagues will miss his warm nature - and the scent of Mettbröttchen in the hallway. With Olaf Erkens, a very dedicated and highly esteemed employee is leaving the Faculty. The Dean's Office, all professors, academic staff, and colleagues thank him sincerely for his patient support over all these years and wish him all the best for this new chapter in his life! …

New Degree Programme: Information Systems

0 The new Bachelor's degree program in Information Systems at TU Dortmund University builds a bridge between the degree programs of the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Business and Economics . The course covers the following three areas in particular: Data Management & Applied Artificial Intelligence, Business Engineering & Process Automation, and Digital Transformation in Business and Society. This trains experts who are able to analyze complex business challenges and master them with innovative IT solutions. Enrollment for the first semester is possible for the winter semester 2024/2025. Back to the roots after 24 years

0 Mr. Brunsing studied spatial planning in Dortmund and Vienna and completed his studies in the mid-1980s with a diploma thesis on pedestrian traffic. After a short period in a planning office in Bonn, Mr. Brunsing was a research assistant at the chair under Professors Paul Baron and Christian Holz-Rau from 1990 to 2000. In his dissertation, he examined the opportunities and potential of public leisure transport. Over the past 24 years, he has worked as a freelance transport planner, from 2015 to 2017 as a substitute professor at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and until 2024 as transport manager (part-time in each case). Poster prize for contribution to digital diagnostics

0 Dr Isabel Neitzel from the Department of S&K presented a poster at this year's Autumn Meeting of Patholinguistics on Saturday 23 November. Her presentation entitled ‘Adaptive use of the LSI.J to test the language comprehension of young people with intellectual disabilities’ was awarded first prize for the best poster contribution. The prize is endowed with €100 and recognises the difficult diagnostic situation for people with intellectual disabilities, which was addressed here in a pilot study using a digital language comprehension tool. Dr. Isabel Neitzel vom Fachgebiet S&K war am Samstag, den 23.11. beim diesjährigen Herbsttreffen Patholinguistik mit einem Posterbeitrag vertreten. Ihre Präsentation mit dem Thema „Adaptive Nutzung des LSI.J zur Überprüfung des Sprachverständnisses von Jugendlichen mit intellektueller Beeinträchtigung“ wurde mit dem ersten Preis für den besten Posterbeitrag ausgezeichnet. Der Preis ist mit 100 € dotiert und wertschätzt die schwierige Diagnostiksituation für Menschen mit intellektueller Beeinträchtigung, die hier in einer Pilotstudie mit Hilfe eines digitalen Sprachverständnistools aufgegriffen wurde. JProf. Dr. Simon Hensellek starts his junior professorship

0 Simon Hensellek studied Management & Economics at the Ruhr University Bochum and studied abroad at the Tongji University in Shanghai and the Utrecht University School of Economics. He received his doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he worked as a research assistant and post-doctoral researcher in the Department of E-Business and E-Entrepreneurship. Studies of his cumulative dissertation were awarded prizes such as the "Best Paper on International Entrepreneurship Award" (ACERE Conference 2018). In his research and teaching, Simon Hensellek pursues a triad of entrepreneurship, innovation, and digitalization. In particular, he focuses on entrepreneurial behaviors (e.g. bricolage) and strategies (e.g. entrepreneurial orientation) as well as digital innovations (e.g. digital prototyping) and business models (e.g. platform economy). Research topics include young, innovative growth companies (startups) as well as established companies in the context of digital transformation (e.g., digital leadership). Simon publishes his research in international journals such as Electronic Markets or Journal of Business Research and regularly presents his research results at national and international conferences such as the Academy of Management Annual Meeting (AOM). …
